Today we went to VCA to have Newton's stitches removed. Newton got to see Dr. Roberts. Dr. Roberts said that Newton's incision was looking good and that he was glad to see that Newton was doing so well.

I was just happy that Newton wasn't being a total monkey man at the vet's office. He did very well and made me a proud momma.

Today marks Newton's 4 month ampiversary and marks 6 months from when he first started to limp. Wow, what a roller coaster ride we have been on. Newton has taught me some very valuable life lessons. Live for the now and don't take anything for granted! I'm so proud of my baby boy.

Today, Newton got to play with one of his favorite neighborhood kids, Hailey. Hailey has no fear of dogs and isn't scared by Newton's very loud and sometimes startling bark. She fed him some good treats. I didn't realize how much Newton liked Hailey until he started whining when she left.

Why is that every time we have to head up to CSU it shows?!?! Today it took us about 2.5 hours to make the journey from Highlands Ranch to Fort Collins. When we got to CSU, Newton was on his best behavior. Of course, he is still quite the rock star and everybody wants to come and meet him. As people approach him, I let them know that he will probably jump up and start barking at them and that he doesn't like it when they look him in the eye. As the nurse was taking down our info for the past month, a gal stopped by to say hi. Newton didn't bark at her at all. In fact, he rolled over exposing his belly for her to rub. He has never done that one in public before. She was quite calm and I think that he could sense that she wasn't nervous around him.

During lunch (I always go to Ruby Tuesdays when I head up to CSU), I got a call from Dr. Perry. Newton's X-Rays came back clear...yippie! His incision still hadn't closed fully and every once in awhile, there would be some discharge. So, I had Dr. Perry reopen Newton's incision and re-stitch it shut. Hopefully this will be the last time we have to deal with any incision complications. All of the surgeons that I have talked to indicated that they have not seen an incision heal the ways that Newton's did. The "Y" portion of his incision was healing inward, but was not closing. We have an appointment with Dr. Roberts on February 9th to have his stitches removed.

Our next checkup will be in 3 months. I'm so proud of my baby boy and I am glad that I pursued the treatment option that I did. I enjoy each day I get to spend with him and he is pretty much back to his old self.

Wow, I can't believe that it has been 3 months since Newton had his leg amputated. It's weird how I can barely remember what he looked like when he had 4 legs. He doesn't seem any different to me. He is still doing very well and getting stronger by the day. He hasn't ventured upstairs since his last adventure, but he almost started coming down into the basement the other day.

Two coyotes have decided that they are going to make the gully behind my house their new home. Newton is not a big fan of them and is constantly wanting to go outside to see where they are and what they are doing. He also does a good job of letting them know that he does not want them here.

Last night the coyotes sounded like they were having a huge block party. I sounded like there were 10 of them partying it up. Of course, Newton was having none of this and wanted to go outside. While I don't think Newton would attempt to jump my split rail fence, I wasn't willing to take any chances and I also didn't want to tempt a large pack of coyotes either. The whole night Newton was letting off his high pitched whine letting me know that he wanted to go outside which was driving me nuts. That is the only downside of babying Newton during his treatment. When he whines, he expectes you to come to his aid.

One of the coyotes hurt his back leg and doesn't put any pressure on it at all. It reminded me of the days when Newton was limping (although he put a little pressure on his leg). Unfortunately, animal control doesn't seem to care. We have had a few cats and dogs go missing in the neighborhood. I prevented an attack on Tuesday by banging pots together. I can't say that coyotes are real high on my list these days and people need to do a better job at keeping their animals inside.

Newton also has a new baby hawk friend. Newton will watch the hawk like a hawk (ha ha). The hawk loves to sit on the top of our house or on our fence. Who would have guessed that a suburb would have so much wildlife.
